PIECE BY PIECE raises questions and challenges in relation to weapon carrying. It encourages young people to consider these issues in a way that is relevant to their lives, also touching on a range of potentially associated issues such as drug and alcohol use and territorial behaviour. It explores weapon carrying from the perspective of victim and perpetrator, creating opportunities to explore the realities and the myths.
The documentary-style story brings together these perspectives through characters who become involved with weapons in a variety of ways. It explores the story from the perspective of the bystander, those who are at risk of becoming involved in weapon crime and those who are already involved. In addition to the story the DVD also contains real interviews with victim's families and the perspectives of the police, health professionals, weapons experts and offenders.
The films are set within a framework of planned activities written specifically for purpose, providing a range of activities suitable for young people aged 14 years and upwards. This resource is aimed appropriately at different groups of learners: offenders; those at risk of offending and those who are not involved but concerned about weapon crime. This is to enable a wide range of facilitators to use the DVD films in a number of ways: one to one; small groups or classes.
We recommend that you preview this resource and plan carefully before using with individuals or groups.
